Equestrian Event\Hunting\Logging

There is a whole bunch of stuff going on in the Main Tract coming up.  Read on!

 Equestrian Notice

Just a note to let everyone know that there is an OCTRA equestrian event happening this weekend (Sept 28th-30th). They will be camped out in the field to the south. They will be using the equestrian trails throughout the entire Forest during all times of the day for the weekend. The cycling trail crosses the equestrian trail at several places so please exercise extreme caution at these intersections. If you are the lead rider please make it your responsibility to ensure the safety of all users and yield at these crossings. If you have a bell (personally I believe everyone should in a multi-use forest environment) give it a quick ring when approaching intersections. If you do come upon an equestrian speak up so the horse can recognize you as a person.

Please remember as cyclists we are required to give way to equestrians. As always be friendly and I would anticipate that you will be received well. Cooperation as always is the key to everyone experiencing a harmonious enjoyable day in the Forest!
Enjoy the trails, thanks to the efforts of many, they are in excellent condition! See you out there.

Too much to describe here! There are postings in the kiosk in the Main Parking Lot. Please take the time to read them. There is also info on the Dufferin County Forest website.https://www.dufferincounty.ca/residents/county-foresty. Basically as of Oct 1…there may be hunters out there. Bright colours and keep your head up!

A section along “Ken’s Trail” is currently being logged. I have flagged trees beside the trail to let the loggers know where the trail is. There are a large number of trees being cut right beside the trail and they requested that I mark the trees beside the ones marked for harvesting….so there is lots of flagging tape out there! (Sorry). This company has worked in the Main Tract before and has been extremely co-operative and considerate of the trails. If you are out there while they are working please be extremely cautious as they cannot see where you are.

Wow, That’s a lot! The Main Tract is a busy place…please be careful for yourself and others.
